14 Ernie Kovacs, a wacky Hungarian comedian who was killed in an automobile accident yesterday, will be buried tomorrow with simple Presbyterian rites and no eulogy. The rites will be held in the Beverly Hills Community Presbyterian church at 11:30 a. with private interment to follow at Forest Lawn. Rites to Be Simple The rites will be simple because Kovacs often expressed a wish that he exit without the usual' Hollywood funeral. His actress wife, Edie Adams, a member of the church, compromised with a request for simple rites.

Ernie was his usual witty self Friday night at a baby shower for the newly adopted son of Milton Berle. The gay shower party was held at the home of director Billy Wilder. Ernie had worked all day Friday with Buster Keaton on the pilot of a new TV series. He came to the party at 11 p. m.

and left at 1 a. m. Edie had come earlier in their compact station wagon. Kovacs drove the vintage Rolls They switched cars on the return trip. Has Little to Drink Wilder said Kovacs had little to drink and was sober when he left.

But rain had slickened roads. And Ernie always drove like the wild Hungarian he was. Police said he had to be speeding to wrap the wagon around the telephone pole the way he did. No one saw the accident. Kovacs lived like a renaissance duke in his $600,000 home and often signed memos with such medieval names as "Cag-liostro" or "Erencz." His den was cluttered with ancient swords, guns, and suits of armor.

A panel of buttons gave him electronic control of gates, doors, inter-coms, hi-fi, and an indoor waterfall. Big, Brown Cigars Underneath was a wine cellar that looked like Dracula's tomb. Ernie had had artificial cobwebs sprayed over the bottles and vats. And everywhere there were cigars big, brown cigars that he got by the case at $2 a cigar from a Havana maker who made them from a special leaf. And Kovacs continually denounced Fidel Castro whom he blamed for a slowup of his supply.

He averaged from 10 to 12 a day taking better than an hour smoking each one. "Hungarians are people who know how to live," he used to say. "Every moment of life is meant to be enjoyed, to be lived and, best of all, to be treasured." Active pallbearers tomorrow will be Jack Lemmon, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Dick Quine, Joe Mikalos, and Wilder. In addition, Andrew Kovacs of New City, N. father of the 42 year old comedian, and a brother, Tom Kovacs, will Tol-low the coffin as honorary pallbearers.

LOWER DEATH ESTIMATE IN PERU DISASTER (Picture on back page) LIMA, Peru, Jan. 14 Reuters Estimates of the final death toll in Wednesday's avalanche are being scaled down, according to reports from the devastated Ranrahica area today. Observers here put the probable final figure at between 1,000 and 1,500 dead, compared with the initial health ministry estimate of 3,800. About 130 bodies have been recovered but most of the victims are buried under a 40 foot layer of ice, rock, and mud. A Dutch, rescue dog flown to Ranrahica with his trainer yesterday could still not be used because the mass of.

ice which thundered down from Peru's highest 22,180 foot Mount Huascaran, has set ce-; ment-hard.
