Youthpower is expanding elsewhere this summer to include Forth Worth; Montreal; Toronto; Racine and Oshkosh, and Birmingham, Ala. According to Aaron Schein-feld, chairman of the board of Manpower, part of the Youth-power goal for the summer will be to develop new employment areas for young people. "In a large metropolitan community, many areas are overlooked in which young people could serve business men and householders," said Scheinfeld.

"By sponsoring the Youthpower project, we hope to encourage young people to explore these opportunities for themselves, and to uncover employment possibilities for as many responsible young people as possible." Jobs will range from an afternoon of babysitting to a whole summer of work in an office or factory, said Franzmeir. Each youth who applies for work thru Youthpower is interviewed to determine his education, job needs, experience, background, desires, and availability, said Franzmeir. Beginning June 18, both Youthpower offices in Chicago will be open from 9 a. m. to 4:30 p.

THE JOB PROSPECTS BRIGHT FOR '66 COLLEGE GRABS 700,000 Get Degrees, Wirtz Says Washington, June 4 Uft The greatest flood of college graduates in the nation's history starts pouring from classrooms this month, and the department of labor says their prospects for jobs at high pay have never been brighter. "Employers are offering jobs to graduates at a record pace," said Secretary of Labor W. Willard Wirtz, with some starting salaries ranging up to $850 a month or more. The crop of graduates receiving bachelors' and advanced college degrees is expected to total nearly 700,000.

Urged to Find Jobs Wirtz said, however, that reports from some colleges indicate many graduates are not actively seeking work because they face military service. He urged them to find jobs anyway. "Reports received by the labor department indicate that many companies welcome graduating seniors regardless of their draft status," Wirtz said. The greatest demand is for graduates in scientific and technical fields, such as engineering, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, Wirtz said. "Employment opportunities are also rich for those seeking careers as accountants," he said.

And with new laws against job discrimination, greater employment opportunities for Negroes and for women graduates are becoming a reality, Wirtz added. Engineers Are Recruited Wirtz reported extraordinarily heavy recruiting competition for young graduate engineers by industry, federal, state, and local governments, and educational institutions. The demand for engineers is greatest among specialists in chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering, especially those with masters' and doctors' degrees, he said. Starting salaries range up to $725 a month for engineers with bachelors' degrees, up to $350 for those with masters' degrees, and considerably higher for those with doctors', Wirtz said. Starting pay being offered to mathematicians with bachelors' degrees averages about $600 a month, Wirtz said.

Salaries for graduates in the physical sciences, such as chemistry, physics and astronomy, are running from $575 to $700 a month to start, he said. Graduates with degrees in business administration are being offered an average starting salary of $550 a month for most business trainee and sales jobs, he added. The response was so good, the program was expanded to Chicago and Green Bay, last summer. During the 1965 program, approximately 5,600 youths applied for jobs, and 2,000 were successfully placed. In Chicago, some 1,200 applied, and approximately 400 got jobs.
