1969 TWO CLIMBERS 7511 Loa HOW ICE SLIDE KILLED 7 BY JOHN ROGERS KATMANDU, Nepal, May 2 Two weary survivors of a Himalayan mountain disaster arrived here today and told newsmen 1 how "a tremendous ice avalanche" had swept away seven fellow climber's and hurled them to their deaths 500 feet below. The story was told by William A. Read, of Moose. and Dr. Jeffrey Duenwald, of Pullman, who were brought back by helicopter.

They were taken by American Ambassador Carol C. Laise to her residence. No Trace of Bodies The avalanche hurled five Americans and two Sherpa guides to death Monday 35 they were setting up an adVance base camp for their ascent at awesome Mount Dhaulagiri Read related. The mountain is 150 miles northwest of here. "There was no trace of them, and we think it would be impossible to recover any bodies." Read said at a press conference.
