VICEVICH Ex-sailor, oldest U. S. Medal of Honor winner, dies at 101 BROCKTON, Mass. IAP1-The nation's oldest Medal of Honor winner died Tuesday at 101 years of age, nearly half as old as the United States Navy which he served until 1921. William Seach, who was born in London on May 23, 1877, died of pneumonia at the Brockton Veterans Medical Center, where he had been a patient for two years.

Seach was awarded the nation's highest military honor for personal bravery while under enemy fire in four land battles in June, 1900, during the Boxer Rebellion in China. He was a seaman. THE AWARD was approved by President William McKinley, but presentation was delayed by McKinley's assassination in 1901. Seach finally received the honor from President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903. Seach retired from the Navy in 1921 with a service-connected disability, and lived on a pension until his death.

very good time." BARKER, WHO never married, fascinated many of his young Park Ridge neighbors with his tales of days gone by- An avid golfer who played into his 80s and often scored in the 80s, Dr. Barker continued sailing until he was past 100. He also enjoyed composing music and playing the piano. During the years he was in dental practice, he said, he and everyone in bis made it a practice to take off an entire month each summer "so everyone could have a good time." In retirement, he spent many winters in Florida. Funeral arrangements were pending.

DR. JOHN P. Barker, a retired Chicago area dentist and adventurer who was a pioneer in making natural-looking dentures, died Tuesday at his home in Park Ridge. He was 102 years old. Barker was born July 5, 1876, one day after the nation's centennial, in a dugout on a Nebraska homestead.

In an interview with The Tribune last July, he said he sat on Buffalo Bill's knee, met President William McKinley, and voted for Teddy Roosevelt. He said he worked until he was 80, helped raise three motherless boys, wrote poetry, composed music, baked "a lot of very good apples," and told many a "snappy story."
