Produced end directed by Bruno Boxtetto; wrmwi by Boston; QukM ManulL en tburlta NIehetti; animation photography ay Luciano MaraaKt; Hva acbon photography by Mario ataaim; ednad by Otencarte Floeel; Spatially FHrne relaaao at tha apograph Theater. Bated PO. and winds up in the film's live action orchestra, which is composed of doddering old EACH OF THE pieces tells a story, but the stories are so strong that in each case the music ends up serving as a background for the animation. "Allegro Non Troppo is an entertaining package with none of the lofty intentions of "Fantasia." Insteadof Leopold Stokowski conducting, "Allegro Non Troppo" offers a crazed bear of a Italian conductor who would seem to be more comfortable holding a jack hammer than a baton.

It's a thoroughly entertaining film, entirely suitable for older children. 'Jabberwocky By Gene Siskel Movie critic FREQUENTLY written sentence: (0 The animated film is dead. Well, fa I hoI(1 on' 911 ItaIian is giving the VI moribund art form pen-to-paper resuscitation. The fUm is Bruno Bozzetto's "Allegro Non Troppo," a sendup and homage to Walt Disney's "Fantasia." Like "Fantasia," which is playing at the Carnegie Theater, "Allegro Non Troppo" (at the Biograph) is a collection of short pieces of animation illustrating an assortment of classical music. The six animated sequences in "Allegro Non Troppo" are separated by live action scenes.

That's where the "Fantasia" parody begins. An overly enthusiastic emcee on a concert hall stage tells of his great new film, which involves "music interrupted by cartoons." He, in turn, is interrupted by a long distance phone call from California, which informs him' that someone already has made such a film. "They said it was called 'Fantasia, says the emcee, covering the phone. "Made by a certain Prisney." Eventually, the animation gets rolling, but if you're curious why there is so much live-action material in this 98-minute movie, the reason is producer-director Bozzetto ran out of money making costly animated scenes and used a comic, live-action introduction to flesh out the picture to feature length. THE FIRST piece of illustrated music is Claude Debussy's "Prelude to Afternoon of a Faun." Bozzetto uses it to tell the story of an old satyr with a pot belly and false teeth.

He's mm still chasing women, but the women run away. He spruces himself up with the aid of some birds but the cosmetics either rub or wash off. This piece, the best of the six, concludes tenderly with the old satyr continuing to chase his female ideal. The camera eventually pulls back to reveal the satyr has been playing out his fantasy on a world that itself is shaped like a woman. Bozzetto's "Afternoon of a Faun" -thus becomes an old man's lament.

Given the film's riotous introduction, the emotional swing provided by the first piece 1s powerful. Other music includes Dvorak's "Slavic Dance No. 7" (which tells of modern man's almost slavish devotion to conformity); Ravel's "Bolero" (the story of a creation: from slime in a Coke bottle to dinosaurs to modern man); Sibelius' "Valse Triste" (a cat looks at his old home, now in ruins, and remembers room-by-room better times); Vivaldi's "Concerto in C-Minor" (a lady bee tries to have a peaceful picnic on a sunflower, but is interrupted by rambunctious human lovers); and Stravinsky's "The Firebird" (a different version of the Adam Eve story this time, the serpent eats the apple mm HERE IS A film suitable for those who like unfunny comedies. "Jabberwocky" is the-name, but to link it to Lewis Carroll or to his poem is to insult both. "Jabberwocky" is being billed as made by the Monty Python comedy crew, with artwork that suggests it's a sequel to "Monty Python and the HolyGrafl." That's misleading on both counts.

Only a couple of the Python gang (seen regularly on WTTW-Ch. 11) contributed to the script, and the result is a crude and totally unfunny picture. It's the story of a medieval bumpkin who stumbles his way into fighting a dragon and marrying a princess. When in doubt, the script resorts to jokes about urination, defecation, or dismemberment. Rating for "Jabberwocky" at the Sandburg (formerly the Playboy Theater): 1 star.

Marketing Communications STATE. "I play a sleazy, profane, unattractive wrestling promoter," said Saks with the joy of a reprieved prisoner. "I'm really a terrible man. I make ghastly jokes about my homosexual son and also about a midget. The midget, played by a marvelous French dwarf named Herve Villechiase, meets Henry Winkler, who is trying to be an actor, in a casting office and talks him into coming to my office with the idea of picking up extra money by wrestling.

It all takes place in the 'Gorgeous George' eraand the story has a kind of wild poetry to it." Saks, once a wildly dedicated member of the Actors Studio, is not a novice when it comes to emoting before the camera. Success, of course, is nothing new to him; he's the whiz who whipped "Same Time, Next Year" and "California Suite" into diamond-smooth shape, thereby assuring them long runs on Broadway. So what more could he possible want out of life? Plenty. Like many a red-blooded, fantasy-prone American, Gene Saks wants to be a movie star. It's an ill-concealed yearning that has driven him to the humbling point of taking orders from Carl Reiner. Reiner is director of "The One, the Only," a new comedy written by Steve Gordon and starring Henry Winkler and Kim Darby as a wrestler and his restless paramour.
