Dr. Harold Sullivan in 1969 He received his medical doctorate while working as a fireman. DR. HAROLD P. Sullivan, former chief 6urgeon of the Chicago Fire Department and the only department doctor who started his career as a fireman, died Tuesday in Oak Park Hospital.

He was 85. Dr. Sullivan joined the fire department as a rookie in 1916 and while in the ranks received his medical doctorate at the Loyola University Medical School. He retired from the department in 1965. Dr Sullivan, of Oak Park, was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

He also formerly served as senior surgeon at St. Anthony Hospital and as medical director for the Coal Drivers Local Union 754 and Truck Drivers Local 705. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Capraro and Mrs. Jacquelyn Chapman; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, North Avenue and Lathrop Street, River Forest. Col. Stang dies after run after serving as commander of the 3d Brigade of the 82d Airborne Division since September, 1978.

A native of Upper Darby, he graduated from Pennsylvania Military College in 1959 and was commissioned later that year. His first battalion command was with the 1st Battalion Mechanized Infantry in Korea in 1974. He then commanded the 1st Battalion Ranger 75th Infantry in 1975 at Ft. Stewart, Ga. Stang was a member of the Army's first rifle company in combat in Viet Nam in May, 1965, and served another tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, and four children. FT. BRAGG. N.C. AP-The chief of staff of the 82d Airborne Division collapsed and died Tuesday after a 2-mile run to a company ceremony.

Col. Arthur C. Stang III, 43, collapsed on the platform at Pike Field about 9:30 while addressing a crowd attending the installation of a new commander of the division's finance company. He had run from the division area (o the field with members of the company. He was dead on arrival at Womack Army Hospital, a division spokesman said.

The spokesman said it Is believed that Stang died of a heart attack, but an autopsy was ordered. He played in the 1920s and 30s for the Chicago Cubs, the New York Giants, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. A son, Fred is an official of the Chicago Department of Housing. Mrs. Lindstrom is also survived by 2 other sons, Andrew and Charles; and 14 grandchildren.
