1 1 1 In Carroll Sudler, 83, dies; civic leader, ex-realtor CARROLL HOPKINS Sudler, 83. a retired realtor and civic leader, died Monday in his Lake Forest Home. Mr. Sudler was a former partner in Sudler 875 N. Michigan which manages and sells downtown and Near North Side real estate.

He. and his brother, Louis, founded the company in 1927. Mr. Sudler retired in August, 1978. A Lake Forest resident for 47 years, Sudler was a life trustee of Lake College and a former chairman -of its board.

He a life trustee of the Newberry Library and Chicago Academy of Sciences, former president of the Civic Federation of Chicago, and former director fLake Forest Hospital. MR. SUDLER ALSO was a life member of the Chicago Crime Commission and a long-time director and officer of the board of the YMCA of Chicago. Mr. Sudler attended Chicago Latin School and was graduated from Yale University in 1917.

He was a member of Beta Kappa there. Immediately after college, he served a year in France as an Army second lieu- tenant, later attaining the rank of captain. After World War he became a salesman and director of Ketterlinus Lithographing Co. in Philadelphia. He is survived by his wife, Martha; a son, Carroll H.

III; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Stimpson and Mrs. Barbara S. Maltby his brother; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 5 p.m.

Thursday in First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, 700 N. Sheridan Rd. Mill Run trumpeter dies A MEMORIAL service for John E. Howell, 55, a trumpeter who played with some of the nation's top jazz bands, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St.

Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1500 W. Belmont Av. Mr. Howell, who lived in Glendale Heights, died Saturday in West Suburban Hospital, Oak Park. In his later years, Mr.

Howell was the lead trumpeter the orchestra at Mill Run theater in Niles. Some of the nation's more popular singers who performed at Mill Run asked that Howell be part of their orchestral accompanists. They included Peggy Lee, Vic Damone, and Tony Bennett. Obituaries Dr. Charles J.

Fischer Services for Dr. Charles J. Fischer, a dentist for years on the South and Southwest sides, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel at 5570 W. 95th Oak Lawn.

Dr. Fischer, 74, died Sunday in Christ Hospital, Oak Lawn. A graduate of De Paul University and Loyola School of Dentistry, he was a life member of the Chicago, Illinois, and American dental associations. Survivors include his wife Dorothy; and a son, Charles S. Robert Jerome Dunne Mass for Robert Jerome Dunne, retired presiding judge of the Probate Division of Cook County Circuit Court, will be at 10:30 a.m.

Tuesday In Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1071 Tower Rd. Winnetka. Mr. Dunne, 80, died Sunday in his Winnetka home. A judge for 4 44 years, Mr.

Dunne retired from the bench in 1976 after spending the last 20 years of his career as presiding probate judge. At the time of his death, he was associate counsel with the law firm of McBride, Baker, Wienke, and Schlosser. Mr. Dunne's father was Edward F. Dunne, a former mayor of Chicago and governor of Illinois.

Mr. Dunne was a highschool track star and captain of the 1921 football team of the University of Michigan, where he was known as 'Duke." He won 10 letters in sports, participated in the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp, and coached at Northwestern and Harvard universities and the University of Chicago. He began his career as an associate judge in 1932 in the former Municipal Court and was elected to the Circuit Court in 1936. Mr. Dunne is survived by his wife, Margaret; two sons, Robert Jr.

Carroll Hopkins Sudler Life trustee of Lake Forest College and former chairman of its board. HE TOOK UP the trumpet at age 5 in his native town of Wichita Falls, and at age 12 was playing professionally. He moved to Chicago in 1947 and did several tours with Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Count Basie, and Charlie Barnett and their orchestras. It was while playing with Barnett in Los Angeles that he met his wife-to-be. Kerstin Nystrom.

She was a professional singer. In World War I1, Howell served in Britain in the United States Army Air Corps and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross.
